Since shutting its borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cameroon government has repatriated over a thousand of its citizens.
Early this month, the latest set of citizens stranded abroad were brought back from Dubai, 139 in number.
Some Cameroonians still stuck abroad however say more needs to be done. A Cameroon business man in China says he and his sister have gone though hell these past months.
“Many of us can’t afford hotel bills and food any longer. We have done all we can to contact our embassy and the Ministry of External Relations to no avail” he says.
“Turkish airlines is seeking permission to land in Cameroon on the 11 of June … we are willing to pay our flights to go back home” he explains further.
Racism he says is another challenge they face making life unbearable for them. “We need to return home” he pleads.
Government has made no more remarks about repatriating citizens since the last set returned in early May.
