The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO has added its voice to calls for justice for Journalist Samuel Wazizi.
The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, said it is necessary for the Cameroon government to investigate his death in detention.
“I am deeply concerned about the circumstances surrounding the death of Samuel Wazizi,” he said.
Director-General Audrey added: “I call on the authorities to shed light on the events that led to Wazizi’s demise and ensure that any contravention to his rights as a journalist and as a detainee are brought to justice.”
Government had said Wazizi died in the Yaounde military hospital after suffering severe sepsis.
The pidgin newscaster on Chillen Media Television (CMTV), had no contact with his lawyer, family and friends since his arrest.
