A local wheelbarrow pusher in Souza, Douala has lost his life after he was hit by a rushing trailer at about 2 a.m.

Residents of Souza where the man lived say the he had been sustaining himself by transporting people’s goods using his wheelbarrow and sometimes works throughout the night to fend for himself.

Witnesses say the life of this man who is deaf and dumb from birth would have been saved had the military not neglected the situation despite them equally witnessing it.

“He was crossing the highway at about 2 a.m. when he got caught up in between a bus and a rushing heavy truck. The truck hit the man violently to the ground and drove off. We thought the military would assist to take the wounded man to the hospital but to our dismay, they paid very little attention to the man who was lying by the side of the road in total anguish,” an eyewitness narrated.

“He laid there on the road for more than two hours without anybody to take him to the hospital,” he added.

“When the man was finally rushed to the hospital, he had already passed away. What shocked us the more was the negligence and carelessness of the security officers who were present. They paid particularly very little attention to what had happened. It is really sad.”

Persons in Souza where the man worked say they knew very little about him as he could not talk. So they only called him “Mumu the truck pusher”.
