Doctors Without Borders (DWB) has condemned the killing of a community health worker that supported the organization in the South West region of Cameroon.

In a release made public Saturday July 11, 2020, Doctors Without Borders says “…we were notified of his killing through an official statement from separatists”.

Doctors Without Borders condemns the killing while regretting that workers of an independent humanitarian organization providing health care to people in needy communities are often targeted by non-state fighters in Cameroon.

“The death of the health worker is an example of an ongoing violence in the North West and South West regions where attacks on health care workers and hospitals are a regular occurrence,” Doctors Without Borders adds.

Ambazonia fighters in Kumba in the South West are said to have killed the health worker volunteering with Doctors Without Borders on Friday, July 10, on accusations of collaborating with government forces.

Humanitarian health workers rendering their services in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon face violence most often from separatist fighters.

As a direct consequence, communities in need of health care are left to suffer as government health workers cannot reach these places because of insecurity.
