Ugandans are brazing to head to the polls in 2021, to elect a new president in a General Election.

But a long-time rival of President Yoweri Museveni and four-time presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye has said he will not take part in the polls.

“We do not need an election in order to get freedom. The strategy must be to prepare ourselves to fight for our country with or without an election,” said Dr. Besigye, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) – which is now in search of another flag bearer.

But at the center of attraction in Uganda lately is the country’s youngest presidential hopeful, Hillary Humphrey Kaweesa, a 19-year-old University Student.

BBC Africa reported this Thursday, that Kaweesa intends to challenge incumbent president Yoweri Musoveni for the top seat come 2021.

Kaweesa says he has always believed to have innate leadership qualities in him which he thinks are enough to lead a country like Uganda.

He also said he intends to open a fund raising aimed at gathering at least 20million Ugandan Shillings for his nationwide campaign.

Humphrey at 19 in Uganda is able to stand for a presidential election due to a parliamentary decision in 2017 which removed presidential age limit from 75 years as well as lowering the age for eligibility for potential Presidential candidates from 35 to 18 years.

All Presidential aspirants are expected to collect 100 signatures in every district for their nomination in a country that has more than 100 districts.

Another Presidential hopeful in Uganda is famous music star Bobi Wine.

Wine has said he will challenge longtime President Yoweri Museveni in the elections, saying the president has become old and ineffective and should hence leave power to the younger generation.
