Government has started the process of demolishing installations constructed at Stade Mbapelepe stadium in Douala for the treatment of coronavirus patients. The process kicked off Thursday October 15th 2020.
Technicians have noticed that part of the green turf has been destroyed and demands immediate repair before the start of African Football Championship (CHAN). Another team of inspection from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is due to arrive the country in the days ahead.
Mbapelepe Stadium in Douala is expected to act as a training ground in the course of African football championship -CHAN in January 2021 and for African Cup of nations 2022.
Since the makeshift COVID 19 structure was put in place, no patient has been treated there. An action Cameroonians think it’s part of government’s wasteful spending of tax payers’ money without justification and logic.
Before now, Cameroon minister of sports and physical education Narcise Moulle Kombi has written to the minister of public health Dr. Manouada Malachie to remove the installations. A call the minister failed to respect.
