The last time relatives of Mr Ntah Peter Engwo who hails from Batibo, North West region of Cameroon saw him was on September 18 2020. He had no plans to travel – he had scheduled a meeting with one of his brothers who never heard from him till date. “We checked his room, all his belongings are there, no item was taken away, but we have not been able to get to him on phone, this has been devastating to the entire family,” reveals the brother to MMI. MR Ntah Peter was a head teacher at the Benita Bilingual School Nkolfulu in Yaounde. His relatives say they will not give up until he is found.

Kenyan nurses have issued a 14-day strike notice to the government, citing the lack of a safe working environment. Eighteen nurses have died from Covid-19 after treating patients with the virus, the nurses’ union Secretary General Seth Panyako said. He added that once the strike notice lapses, the healthcare workers will not return to work unless their issues are addressed. They also want the government to declare Covid-19 an occupational hazard and to be provided with comprehensive medical cover.
The authorities in the Tunisian city of Sousse are investigating the death of a woman who fell into an open manhole following heavy rains. Myriam Dhahbi was walking home from work when the incident happened. The 20-year-old died before arriving at hospital, the civil protection brigade which conducted the rescue said.
The leaders of Ethiopia’s Tigray region are using the ongoing conflict to seek international sympathy and to get pardons for their past crimes, the country’s former prime minister has said in an article in the Foreign Policy Magazine. “The key problem in the international community’s approach to Ethiopia is the assumption of moral equivalence, which leads foreign governments to adopt an attitude of false balance and bothsidesism,” said Hailemariam Desalegn, who led the country from 2012 to 2018. One of the most prominent pro-democracy activists in Egypt has been put on a terrorism list, along with more than 20 others, accused of having joined the Muslim Brotherhood. A Liberian senatorial candidate in the upcoming polls is promising to free former president Charles Taylor from prison if he wins the election. Menikpakei Dumoe hails from the central Bong County, where Taylor lived when he was a rebel leader in the 1990s. A UN-backed court convicted Taylor of war crimes over his support for rebels who committed atrocities in neighbouring Sierra Leone during the 1991-2002 civil war.
Ethiopia’s Letsenbet Gidey and Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir have both been named among the final five nominees for the Female Athlete of the Year award for 2020. The sports’ governing body World Athletics, which was formally known as the IAAF, reduced the nominations from 10 down to five on Tuesday.
