Some 34,000 poor families living in the North West region especially in the suburbs will in the days ahead benefit from financial and humanitarian assistance from the Safety Net project.

The initiative is put in place by the government of Cameroon to support families suffering as a result of the ongoing Anglophone Crisis.

This declaration was made on Thursday August 5, 2021 by Micheline Njock, coordinator of the project at the launch of a two-day workshop in Bamenda.

The workshop aimed at strategizing on ways to ensure stakeholders properly select the targeted family members.

Each of the 16 subdivisions shortlisted to benefit from the project is expected to select 1,000 poverty-stricken families that will receive the financial assistance of 360.000FCFA during a two-year period plus the development of their skills in agriculture, animal rearing and other income generating activities.

The North West regional coordinator of the Safety Net project highlighted that selection has been left in the hands of the councils, traditional and religious authorities.

“We have the DOs, the mayors and our representatives that will be there to followup all the activities”, the coordinator said.

The Safety Net project is in it’s second phase in the North West region and is financed by the World Bank to assist families that are affected by the ongoing Anglophone Crisis.
