The Cameroon entertainment industry and the public, in general, are yet to come to terms with news of the passing away of singer and reality TV star, Mbonjem Lesly Aponglen Lesly.

The 24-year-old singer who goes by the pseudo name of Fhish died last night alongside his manager in a car crash along the Tiko-Douala highway.

Fhish’s demise comes barely over a month after he emerged winner of the 2021 Biggy Studios reality show where he got a car and other gifts.

He died alongside his manager and close aide Feka Parchibel who doubles as a humanitarian and activist.

Fans, artist colleagues, and well-wishers continue to express their regrets over the incident.

New Bell Music’s Ishaku wrote: “It could be anyone one of us… This is tough. Love and Light to the family of Fhish. Let it be known he died on the struggle. His legacy lives on…”

Similar tributes have also been pouring in for Parchibel, including from members of the civil society.

‘Police can’t protect me‘

Fhish was more than just a singer. His songs often carried messages of hope and social and political change. He was to many a youth, an avid representation of the struggles they had to face in daily life, with little or no assistance.

A few weeks back, he had an incident along the same highway, after which he said he was being haunted. He had been traveling to Douala he says when he was ambushed by security officers who at one point seized his mobile phone.

In a December 2nd video, he expressed his dissatisfaction that the forces of law and order failed to protect him like they should have – a regular cry of many a Cameroonian.

“It was a well-organized plan of action, which led to an accident, because of some monetary transactions I carried out yesterday,” he wrote.

Investigations, he added, were ongoing.
