Thousands showed up in the towns of Tiko, Douala, and Bamenda today to pay their last respects to late singer, Fhish alias Mbonjem Lesley. A final wake in his honor is going on in Douala. He’ll be buried in Awing, North West region tomorrow. Fhish and his manager, Feka Parchibel died in a car crash last December 23.


At Fhish’s wake keep today, his artist colleague, Njang Collins aka Ko-C pledged to assist the deceased’s family. He said he would pay the school fees of the late singer’s daughter for the next ten years.


A man and his three kids who died of food poisoning a day after New Year’s Day have been buried today. They were buried in their native Fungui village in the North West region. Their wife and mother who cooked the food remains in detention.


In a similar story, two young men are reported to have died in Bomaka, Buea in the South West region. They both died after consuming substances believed to be poisonous. The exact substance remains unknown.


Two Cameroonians have reportedly died in Cyprus today according to reports. The two men are believed to have been suffocated to death by smoke from lit charcoal. They died in their sleep, which they had burnt inside the house to keep themselves warm.



President Paul Biya has signed a decree authorizing the creation of state universities in Garoua, Bertoua, and Ebolowa. The decree enforces a promise he made during his message to the nation last December 31. He had said he’ll create a University each in the North, South, and East regions.


Ahead of the AFCON, the South West Region has been heavily militarized by the government. The increased security is aimed at securing the players that will be playing in the region from possible attacks from separatist fighters.



The Gabonese national team has rejected the La Falaise Hotel reserved for them in Yaoundé upon their arrival ahead of the AFCON2022 kick-off. They chose to reside at the Star Land Hotel situated in Bastos, Yaoundé. The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has asked the Gabonese delegation to explain the reason for such an action before 11 am on Friday.
