A woman said to be in her 60s is said to have been electrocuted to death Saturday April 23 as heavy rains left several neighbourhoods in Douala flooded. The woman who died in the Bessengue neighbourhood was said to have tried disconnecting her household appliances as the rain was falling but got electrocuted to death in the process.
According to reports, she was attempting to disconnect electronic appliances as water flooded her home.
A man who identified himself as brother of the deceased said: “At about 5am, there was a heavy rain at valley Bessengue and about 5:40, my sister, was in her house. The water level in the house was above 1 meter and when she attempted disconnecting the electronic appliances in the house, she got electrocuted. Before we could rush her to the hospital, she gave up the ghost”.
This is however not the first case death linked to floods in the town of Douala. Government has repeatedly announced measures to address the drainage problem of the city but nothing has changed
