Motorbike robbers, arrested in Yaoundé

A gang of six robbers, suspected of regular robbery of motorbikes in Yaounde have been apprehended by elements of the first Gendarmerie region ,Yaounde, Center Region.


According to reports the suspected robbers are accused of using fire arms other harmful weapons to terrorize bike riders in the community.



The suspects, according, Col. Jean Pierre, chief of staff at the First Gendarmerie Legion, is a gang of 10 persons.Four are still at large.

“It concerns a gang of 10 individuals who specialize in hijacking bike riders in the sectors”, indicated col. Jean Pierre.


Out of over a hundred bikes declared missing under these robbers, just 25 have yet been recovered by the forces of security, according to security sources.

Victims of their robbery say they now feel a sigh of relief following the interven
tion of the forces of law and order.


“I was stopped by a lady at Carrefour d’amitié , she was going to Nkoabang. On getting to the destination, she gives me 5000 and while looking for change, her friends came out of the bushes and robbed me.” recounted a victim.

He added ” Though my bike hasn’t been found, I am happy for the job done by the gendarmerie”.



The robbers whose ages range from 25 to 30, admitted carrying out acts of robbery in the community.

“I am a bike rider and my job is to transport those who hijack the bikes. I drop them for operations and bring them back when they are done”, affirmed one of the robbers.



While the fate of these robbers is yet to be determined by the Security officials, the latter has promised to do everything in their capacity to lay hold of the remaining suspected 4.
