After what was described by many as “a long and hectic day” French President Emmanuel Macron has finally arrived Yaoundé, political capital of Cameroon.
Many roads had been blocked and other circulation channels diverted for hours ahead of his arrival.
While officials ensured all was in place, with thousands gathered to welcome Macron, town dwellers were seeking ways to cope with the extreme inconveniences the new measures posed.
Macron arrived the Nsimalen airport few minutes to 11 pm, “where thousands of rented youths and dance groups had been waiting for him alongside government officials.”
Unlike the officials, however, the multitudes had been waiting in the freezing cold resulting from the rainy day.
After arrival and singing of France and Cameroon’s national anthems, Macron who was received by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute reviewed the troops and then moved to the VIP section of the airport where he met other dignitaries and diplomats.
There, they had a brief chat over champagne before taking off from the airport.
Macron is set to hold a series of meetings tomorrow, Tuesday starting at the French Embassy.
He would later on meet his Cameroonian counterpart at the Unity Palace for tête à tête discussion, followed by a joint press conference.
He leaves Cameroon on Wednesday morning.
