Security forces stationed in Mbiame in the restive Bui Division of the North West Region of Cameroon, have threatened to quit the area if Yaounde fails to send reinforcements.
They were seen making the utterance in a clip circulating on social media.
The threat comes weeks after the Mbiame Brigade commander was killed by separatist fighters and his corpse coffined and taken away.
One of the irate soldiers could be heard in the video that has gone viral saying “if they don’t send us a reinforcement, we will all return to Yaounde tomorrow, it is not with my corpse that they will do a national day of mourning”.
The soldiers in the said clip were standing next to a mounted roadblock. None of them has been identified at the moment.
It is not uncommon for the horrible experiences members of the armed forces are seen going through daily both on and off the battlefield.
Some have often decried the government’s use of force in the Anglophone regions, noting that dialogue alone would resolve the crisis.
Many in the nation’s capital, Yaounde months back, it should also be recalled, raised an alarm after their bonuses for security work done during the African Cup of Nations competition were slashed by hierarchy for no just reason.
Other uniformed officers complained of other injustices which go unpunished, including being compelled to purchase their own uniforms provided for them by the state.
