Over 20 assailants popularly known as “microbes” Thursday August 11, carried out fresh attacks in some localities in Douala, Littoral Region.
Earlier in the day, the Bonadibong neighborhood was attacked by the armed men.
“They were armed with knives and machetes. Shop owners were mostly affected because most of the stores were robbed,” a resident of Bonadibong disclosed.
Another attack was carried out during the day in a neighborhood known as Oyack, in the Douala III municipality.
The attack reportedly left some residents injured.
One of the victims said “they were over 15 youths all armed with machetes, ready to harm or kill anyone trying to resist their orders. They attacked everyone, especially shop owners.”
Later in the evening, a similar incident occurred in the Ndogbong neighborhood.
This time around, it led to the death of a ‘microbe’ and the arrest of two others.
The series of attacks have left many residents with a high feeling of insecurity since no one knows neither when or where the next attack will be carried out.
The residents have however called on the government to look into the issue and reinforce security in the various localities in Douala.
