The Senior Divisional Officer for the Meme Division, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong on Tuesday, September 6, sealed some shops in Kumba, South West Region, for respecting the lockdown by separatists.
According to the Meme SDO, the move is to destabilize the implementation of the one week lockdown imposed by separatist fighters.
“I was fully aware that they want to observe one week of lockdown in the Meme Division in general and Kumba in particular… I decided to go there myself not only to sensitize them but also to seal those who are supporting terrorists in the bushes,” said Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong.
For these shop owners to reopen their shops, they will have to go through a procedure.
“They are supposed to pass and see the city mayor, to pay penalties there, to come and present the receipt to the SDO, for us to authorize the re-opening of the premises,” Added the Meme SDO.
It is in this light that the city mayor of Kumba visited the Kumba main market to sensitize traders on the importance of going about their daily activities, without fear.
However, traders say they are caught in a difficult situation as they also risk being attacked by separatist fighters if they respect government authorities.
