Dr Manaouda Malachie, Cameroon’s Minister of public health has made a U-turn on the prohibition of skin bleaching products on the Cameroon territory.
According to a release signed by the MINSANTE boss on August 19, 2022, products containing hydroquinone and its derivatives, mercury and its derivatives and corticosteroids were to be banned across the territory.
The items were prohibited “… from the date of signature of this decision, the import, manufacture and distribution of cosmetic and personal hygiene products containing the following substances: Hydroquinone and its derivatives, mercury and its derivatives and corticosteroids, ” Dr Manaouda Malachie noted in Article 1 of the statement.
A few days later, the latter was petitioned by Prime Minister Dion Ngute, who asked him to turn down the ban.
The PM indicated that the products “… have obtained an Authorization for Human Consumption in Cameroon.”
Reacting to this, Dr Manaouda Malachie in a recent release disclosed that the decision to ban the products hasbeen uplifted.
The decision, he added, was in accordance with the PM’s call.
Hon Nourane to get the last laugh?
One of those most hard hit by the ban now uplifted, was the PCRN party’s Hon Nourane Foster.
She had appeared on France 24 displaying a skin bleaching products, ingested through the mouth.
Following the ban of the products, many Cameroonians had expressed delight. It now remains uncertain whether she will again flood the market with the said products or not, following the latest development.
