Cameroonian amputee footballer by name Nkam Elvis is reported to have died in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, which struck Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6.
MMI learned of his death on Thursday, February 9.
It is reported that Elvis’s Turkish club, Malatya Amputee Football Club, was lodged in a hotel ahead of a game in the Turkish Amputee Football League when they were hit by the earthquake.
The former player of the Abakwa Boys Football Club of Bamenda has been described as a fine player with exceptional skills.
“He was a mentor to many with his exceptional skills and allowed each and everyone to play while serving as captain of Abakwa Boys AFC and the National Amputee Football team,” read a release that announced his death.
He is the first Cameroonian known to have died in the twin earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday.
Sky News reporter that over 19,000 people had died in the disaster as of Thursday, February 9.
