Inhabitants of Mejang, a community in Belo, Boyo Division of Northwest, woke up to deafening gunshots early Thursday, February 9, that disrupted activities throughout the early part of the day.
Sources told MMI that no one was was injured or killed when patrolling soldiers opened fire around the area.
The locals said they discovering bullet shells littered all over the community, striking fear into the hearts of many.
“They passed this morning heading towards Belo. Immediately they passed through the hospital, they started firing,” a local told MMI anonymously.
“We were doing community work infront of the church and suddenly they started shooting from the hilltop. You can see bullet shells here,” he added.
It is not known whether the soldiers had a confrontation with separatist fighters or they merely fire preemptive shots to scare potential threats.
