There has been widespread condemnation following the attack orchestrated by Ambazonia separatists in Buea, which left many civilians injured.

Reacting to the explosion, Agbor Nkongho Balla, Chairman of Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, outrightly said there is no justification for attacks against athletes that have left many injured.

Hear him:

“I am shocked by the news of the horrific IED attacks meted out against athletes participating in the ongoing 28th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope by unidentified persons.

The 2023 Race is a sporting competition and must not be a target.

Agbor Balla, February 25, 2023

I strongly condemn such barbaric acts and call for restraint.

I equally urge the government to quickly carry out an investigation and bring the perpetrators of these gruesome acts to justice.

The attack is a distressing reminder that civilians must be protected during conflicts.

There is no justification for the attacks against the athletes that have caused severe injuries to some athletes and those in the watching crowd,” Agbor Balla concluded.
