A New York grand jury has reportedly voted to indict Donald Trump in connection with alleged hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
The indictment of Trump, 76, by a grand jury comes after years of investigations into his business, political, and personal dealings.
On Thursday, a lawyer for Donald Trump told US media sources that the former president had been indicted on charges related to payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter.
It is the first criminal case against a former US president and a setback to Trump’s bid to retake the presidency in 2024.
A lawyer for Trump, Joe Tacopina, said he had been told that a grand jury that had been meeting for months had voted to indict Trump. The specific charges were not made public right away.
Trump, who has denied any wrongdoing and has attacked the investigation, was expected to surrender to authorities next week, according to US media sources.
