The National Communication Council (NCC) has summoned two journalists from Info TV for ‘promulgating’ hate speech.
Parfait Ayissi and Dieudonné Mveng have been summoned this Wednesday, May 31, for accommodating controversial remarks from a panelist on the TV channel less than a week ago.
They will have to respond to the subjects of tribal remarks made during the Espace Miné program of April 25, 2023, by Bernard Bassong, a panelist on this program whose theme of the day was “tribalism and hate speech, what to do to avoid the worst?”
“Some people want to exacerbate the power of money, and I’m talking about the Bamileke. They think they can do anything. They can say anything about everyone, but nothing should be said against them…” declared the guest before adding that “the Bamileke are the richest in Cameroon in pecuniary terms, we must first stop this spread”.
In a message made public on May 25, the Secretary of State for Defense in charge of the gendarmerie Galax Etoga announced arrests against people who are guilty of hate and tribal remarks.
Law enforcement officers are equally expected to follow the evolution of the phenomenon, in collaboration with the administrative authorities, and take the necessary measures.
