The Head coach of Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses, Jean Baptiste Bisseck released the 23-woman squad for the upcoming encounters against Kenya. The match is part of the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Lionesses are hosting Kenya at the Reunification Stadium in Douala on September 22, and then they will travel to Nairobi for the return leg on September 26. The tie winner will advance to the final round of qualifiers, scheduled to be played in March 2024.

Bisseck’s squad is a combination of experience and youth, with several players who reached the semi-finals of the 2022 AWCON in Morocco being part of the team.

Players who were impressive in the Cameroon Women’s Elite Championship this season are also in the squad.

Though the Lionesses appear to be the game’s favorite, team coach, Bisseck has warned his players against complacency — if the girls must carry the day.

List of players called up for Cameroon/Kenya game

He said, “Kenya is a good team.” We will need to be at our best to beat them because they have some very talented players.

Our squad is very strong, and I confidently believe that we can get the job done. But let’s focus and be determined, and let’s play as a team.

Goalkeepers

Bihina Michaely Kyria, Biya Cathy, and Onomo Etaba Christemilienne Ornelle.

Defenders

Meffometou Tcheno Falone Claudine, Mayi Kith Easter Kellsy Philomène, Manbolamo Bodolo Eliane, Ngono Marie Victoire, Maague Mariane Ines, Tchengang Vianelle Mireille.

Midfielders

Omboudou Brigitte, Aretouyap Kome Fadimatou, Meyong Menene Charlene, Toko Njoya Achta, Ngo Mbeleck Genevieve Edith, Ngock Yango Jeanette Grace, Ndjoah Eto Naomi Leslie, and Ngock Monique.

Attackers

Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene, Michaella Batya Abam, Ajara Njoya Nchout, Manga Ngah Marie Gisele Divine, Tchapchet Chanel Djuka, and Brenda Tabe Ebika.

What is at stake?

Bisseck’s squad features key players from the 2022 AWCON team, including Aboudi Onguene, Abam Michaella Batya, Nchout Njoya Ajara, and Meffometou Tcheno Falone Claudine.

The Lionesses will expect these players, who have a wealth of experience at the international level, to lead them to victory against Kenya.

Bisseck has also called up several players who impressed in the Cameroon Women’s Elite Championship this season, including Tchapchet Chanel Djuka, Brenda Tabe Ebika, and Omboudou Brigitte.

These players aim to make their mark on the international stage and eagerly assist the Lionesses in qualifying for the 2024 AWCON.

The Lionesses are clear favorites to progress against Kenya, but they need to perform at their best to avoid any surprises.

If the Lionesses want to qualify for the final round of qualifiers, they need to be focused and determined.
