The Nigerian social media landscape has been buzzing after the Nigeria Police Force arrested three individuals alleged to be the operators of the controversial blog, Gistlover.
Adebukola Kolapo (27), Nnedum Michael Somtomchukwu (25), and Isaac Akpokighe (30) were apprehended on accusations of cyberstalking, threat to life, and blackmailing schemes. According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrests were made following a petition filed by Hon. and Dr. Mrs. Oluseyi Oladejo.
The police further claim that the trio, nicknamed “Gistlover family,” are responsible for the daily running of the platform, notorious for its scathing exposés, alleged cyberbullying, and accusations of inciting public outcry. Authorities confiscated 12 accounts believed to be linked to their activities.
However, the alleged suspects’ innocence is vehemently defended by various pages claiming to be affiliated with the real Gistlover. These pages portray the arrested individuals as “innocent boys running fake pages,” while accusing the police of unprofessionalism and a targeted attack on the blog.
The situation has fueled a heated debate online, with opinions divided about the legitimacy of the arrests and the nature of Gistlover itself. Supporters of the blog hail it as a voice for the voiceless, exposing societal ills and holding celebrities accountable.
