Depuis quelques jours, la ville de Maroua est confrontée à une recrudescence des vols de téléphones portables et des agressions en pleine rue. Des jeunes bien organisés louent des motos pour commettre ces actes, arrachant les sacs à main et les téléphones portables des personnes qui se trouvent en bordure de route, ou même en communication sur leur moto ou en conduisant leur véhicule.
Les téléphones volés sont revendus sur le marché noir de la ville, puis acheminés vers les villages et les campagnes où ils sont vendus à bas prix. De nombreuses plaintes ont été déposées auprès des autorités policières.
Le commissaire de sécurité publique du 2ème arrondissement, le commissaire Kepsou Datgolo, a lancé une opération de chasse à l’homme pour mettre fin à ces agissements. Suite à cette initiative, des individus spécialisés dans le vol de téléphones portables à moto ont été appréhendés par la police du deuxième arrondissement de Maroua. Lors de leur arrestation, plusieurs téléphones volés ont été récupérés, ainsi que trois motos qu’ils utilisaient pour commettre leurs méfaits.
Suite aux enquêtes menées, plusieurs personnes ont été identifiées comme complices, et la police est actuellement à leur recherche.
