The family of a journalist was attacked by Amba fighters early on Sunday morning in Ndamukong Street, Bamenda in the North West Region.
The family was said to be on their way to church when they were intercepted by the separatist fighters who insisted on taking them into the bush.
“I witnessed this myself, many bike men saw the act and used their bikes to block the road but the two Separatists fighters threatened them with their guns and they had no choice but to remove the bikes. They also took the small money the journalist and family had on them; 12.500frs,” narrated our source.
According to our source, “they stopped the family and threatened to take the whole family, including the children into the bush.”
“They knew they were dealing with a journalist but they still went ahead threatening them. This is unbelievable!” our source added.
After a series of pleas from the family of the journalist, the separatist fighters rather took the car alongside alongside a mobile phone.
“I can imagine what the children went through. The trauma and everything. It’s horrible! Threatening to kidnap a family because they met a journalist?” our source lamented.
It is reported that the Amba fighters have demanded the payment of 1 million FCFA for the release of the journalist’s car.
NB: For security reasons, names have not been mentioned for fear of reprisal attacks.
