Ambam: Student hospitalized after receiving kick from guidance counselor

A 17-year-old boy by name Ulrich Ateba, student of the Ambam Technical High School was hospitalized after receiving a kick from Valère Aimé Ebwelle, the institution’s guidance counselor.

The ironic incident took place on September 13, in the establishment located in the Vallée du Ntem Division of the South Region.

It is reported that the guidance counselor and the student, said to be in the class of “1ère”, got involved in an altercation. The former was reportedly outraged by the insults of the 17-year-old student who disapproved of his advice.

Without hesitation, the guidance counselor headed toward the student in anger and kicked him.

A few hours later, the guidance counselor received information about the very worrying condition of his victim. The 17-year-old student had been evacuated to the regional hospital of Ebolowa.

According to Dr Bouba, Doctor in charge of the 17-year-old student, “the student had a shock in the left side which caused a rupture of the spleen. The child arrived in a state of shock. We operated him and he is currently out of danger.”

Informed of the incident, the Secondary Education Minister, Nalova Lyonga visited the establishment. In the course of this visit, she once again condemned violence in schools and expressed disappointment at the guidance counselor’s act.

The principal on his part requested the student’s return to the establishment and the Minister’s indulgence with the guidance counselor.
