Ambazonia Fighters kill herdsman in Sop
Armed Ambazonia fighters in Cameroon’s North West Region have executed a Fulani herdsman. The victim, whose names MMI got as Suaibu Umaru of Sop village in Ndu Sub-Division, Donga-Mantung Division. The ambazonia fighters are said to have killed the herdsman despite receiving ransom from his family.
Suaibu was kidnapped three weeks ago while herding his cattle in Ntaba.
His captors, led by self-proclaimed Ambazonia “General” Baba Geeto, along with accomplices identified only as Godlove and Isiaku, initially demanded a ransom of 5 million FCFA but later accepted 1.5 million FCFA from his family.
However, instead of releasing him, they brutally killed him near Ntumbaw on February 17, 2025.
Suaibu’s murder marks the third killing in his family by separatist fighters since the atmed conflict.
The assailants are known to be committing atrocities around Silong, Sop, Ntumbaw and Nwa, allegedly supported by informants and backers within Ntumbaw.
Baba Geeto, the leader of the group, was once a herdsman working for Fulani cattle owners before turning to armed militant.
This is not the first time separatist have targeted Fulani herdsmen.
On February 10, 2025, they killed cattle after a failed mission to disrupt the Youth Day activities in Donga Mantung.
A Voice in the video identified themselves as ADF Donga. The voice said they targeted the cattle because the military ended their mission to disrupt the youth day. They accused the Fulani herdsmen for reporting them.
” We were coming after the Fulani but they escaped. We have killed more than 15 of their cows” said a voice in the video. ” they informed the military of our plan and they chased us away” the voice added.
These incidents add to the worsening security climate in the North West Region yet authorities have ignored voices rising up for dialogue as the local population continue to bear the brunt of the now over 8 years conflict.
