Manchester United have completed the signing of Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana from Inter Milan for an initial fee of £43.9 million. The deal could rise to £47.4 million in add-ons, making Onana the third-most expensive goalkeeper in history.
Kepa Arrizabalaga remains the most expensive goalkeeper of all time after Chelsea paid Athletic Bilbao £71.6 million for his services in 2018. The Spaniard has struggled to live up to his price tag, but he remains a talented goalkeeper.
Other goalkeepers on the list of most expensive transfers include Alisson Becker (£67 million), Thibaut Courtois (£35 million), Ederson (£34.7 million), and Gianluigi Buffon (£32.6 million).
Onana is a highly-rated goalkeeper who has been capped 26 times by Cameroon. He is known for his agility, reflexes, and shot-stopping ability. He is also a good distributor of the ball and has a strong command of his area.
Onana’s arrival at Manchester United is a major coup for the club. He will provide competition for David de Gea and Dean Henderson for the number one spot. He is also a long-term investment for the club, as he is only 27 years old.
