Collective efforts by Cameroonians to stop the spread of coronavirus pandemic have in no way reduced the level of insecurity in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.
The battle between ambazonia boys and the military, military versus the population and separatist fighters against the civilians considered traitors threaten the lives of everyone living in the thirteen divisions of the two regions.
But those targeted particularly are local elected officials, that is members of parliament, Mayors and their deputies and councillors. According to video and audio messages from boys claiming to be fighters for the restoration of the Federal State of Ambazonia, people who accepted to run for elections are considered betrayals, sell outs and traitors. This explain why councillors and parliamentarians, their families and establishments are targeted.
Today, it remains unclear on who will take over power at the helm of Mamfe council after the assassination of Mayor Prisley Ojong by separatist fighters.
In Nwa sub division and other localities in Donga Mantung division, the functioning of councils remain epileptic given the level of insecurity. In Batibo and Bafut sub divisions, mayors and councillors live and work in Bamenda where there is a level of security.
As concerns parliamentarians from the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, over 80% of them practically live in Yaounde and cannot dare to visit their constituency for fear of attack by the fighters.
It is in this precarious situation that government is launching a reconstruction process in the regions. According to Dr. Ako John Ako, there is practically no way to reconstruct an area where bullets are still flying in the air.
