Defence and security forces have arrested four Chinese nationals in Bui, North West, Region of Cameroon.
Suspected of aiding armed separatist Ambazonia fighters, the Chinese nationals, whose identities are yet to be disclosed, were caught with the sum of 22 million francs (CFA).
They were picked on June 25, 2023, and handed to authorities for further investigations.
However, reports say the foreign nationals revealed during military interrogations that “they are tourists with no ulterior motives. “
The four were held at the Bamenda central prison before being transferred to Yaounde for diplomatic reasons.
It is still unclear what happened to them, as the government has yet to issue a statement.
This is the first time it is happening to Chinese in the anglophone regions.
