In just a matter of days, it will be October 1st, a day Southern Cameroonians (Ambazonia) believe is their independence day.
Since the escalation of what is now known as the anglophone crisis, celebrations of this particular day have become violent. The celebrations are always regarded as taboo.
As the day approaches, panic has gripped authorities in the English-speaking regions of the North West and Southwest regions.
In the North West region, Senior Divisional Officers have started signing Prefecturial orders prohibiting undeclared public meetings, public manifestations, and processions within their respective Divisions.
At the time of this report, the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam and that of Ngoketunjia divisions had already made public their Prefectoral orders.
Simon Emile Mooh and Quetong Henderson Kongeh of Mezam and Ngoketunjia respectively ordered that undeclared meetings, public manifestations, and processions are banned within their areas of jurisdiction.
Divisional Officers and forces of law and order are all in charged with implementing the orders.
