The population of Banja Street, a locality in Nkwen, Bamenda III subdivision, North West region of Cameroon are yet to come to terms with the rising rate of kidnappings in the neighborhood orchestrated by suspected separatist fighters.

Recently, the suspected separatist fighters stormed the neighborhood and kidnapped four business persons who came to open their business places early in the morning.

The exact reason for their kidnapped has not been mentioned.

Since their kidnap, the suspected separatist fighters have demanded the sum of three millions francs for each of their abductees, being money for two guns to support their ‘struggle’.

By the time of this report, a woman who was among the four kidnapped had been released but it’s not clear if she paid the required ransom.

It should be noted that, the suspected separatist fighters have been on a mission in the quarter. They have been targeting bars selling brasseries drinks.

Last week, two armed men stormed a bar in the quarter and tried taking the owner away but were overpowered by the population. They abandoned their guns and ran for their lives.

The guns were later taken to the quarter head’s residence were elements of the Santa Barbara gendarmerie were invited to come collect.
