The football team of the North West Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration center – The Lions of DDR, has emerged champion of the Football for Peace tournament organized as part of activities to celebrate the 2022 edition of the Youth Day.

The repentant fighters defeated the local administration in a game recently via penalty shoot outs.

The competition was baptized “Football Tournament for Peace”, and placed under the patronage of the governor of the North West, Adolph Lele Lafrique.

The game at the 6th military region field unfolded under the watchful eyes of the Secretary General at the governor’s office who sat in for his boss.

At the end of the football match, the center’s coordinator, Kum Henry said the ex-fighters are being equipped with entrepreneurial skills aimed at contributing to social and economic development.

To him, the victory means that the repentant fighters are now champions for peace and unity in the country.

On his part, the commissioner for economic development at the North West regional assembly, Gejung Awunti, highlighted the inspiration for the tournament came because of the fact that the regional assembly is there to take care of people and the region in all facets.

As commissioner for economic development, Gejung Awunti said they have to secure the future of the young ones and that can be done via peace.

The 56th edition of the National Youth Day is celebrated on the theme “Youth and Voluntary Participation in the Major Challenges of Cameroon”.
