Separatist fighters have caused havoc in Baligham, a village in Santa subdivision, North West region of Cameroon after they stormed the area and set the palace and other places on fire.

A report says the fighters stormed the Baligham market in the early hours of Sunday, November 14, which was a market day in the area.

“They fired gunshots and sent us away from the market before setting some places ablaze”, a local told MMI.

After their act in the market, the fighters went to the Baligham Palace, setting portions of it ablaze.

Villagers said the fire later destroyed some other houses around, as they later fired gunshots before leaving.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but the locals believe that the act was committed by separatist fighters.

A popular snack bar known as Fally Fashion was burnt because the said bar is noted for selling Les Brasseries du Cameroun products which the fighters have ‘banned’.

The act has rendered some inhabitants of the village homeless, others have lost all that they had in their shops and other valuables.

At the time of the attack in the palace, the Fon of Baligham was not in the village.
