Vocal clergy, Christian Cardinal Tumi has stated that “…i think the head of state can still do something. The head of state should declare amnesty for peace and for kids to go back to school. Military men should go back to the barracks and the boys should lay their arms”.

In a telephone interview with Radio France International(RFI) Monday November 16th 2020, Cardinal Tumi explained details of his discussion with Ambazonia separtist fighters while in captivity in Baba village in the North West of Cameroon on the 5th and 6th of November.

“They boys wanted to know my opinion on the form of state in Cameroon. I told them that federalism is good. They said no and asked me to work and do all for an independent state of Southern Cameroon. I told them that federalism is what I know and that is how English Cameroonians joined La Republic “.

The Cardinal says he was treated with respect. To him, president Paul Biya should do something to calm the situation in the North West and South West regions.

Cardinal Tumi, it should be noted was kidnapped on the 5th of November by separatist fighters and released the following day.

The demand by the Cardinal for amnesty and ceasefire have long been waved aside by Cameroon’s minister of territorial administration.

To Paul Atnaga Nji,government’s military might will solve the problem by eliminating all separatist fighters.

It remains unclear if president Paul Biya will heed to the call of Cardinal for peace to reign.
