Anglophone Crisis: UN Secretary-General  Welcomes Swiss Mediated Talks

Stephane Dujarric de la Rivière, Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has said the UN scribe welcomes Swiss mediated talks between Cameroon and pro-independence groups.

Spokesperson Dujarric writes: “The Secretary-General welcomes the announcement made by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs on 27 June on its efforts to facilitate a resolution of the crisis in the North-West and South-West regions of Cameroon through a dialogue process.
“He expresses the full backing of the United Nations to this endeavour and reaffirms his readiness to support it as necessary. He encourages all parties to participate in this process and commends the Cameroonian authorities and other stakeholders for this positive step.
“The Secretary-General reiterates the need for all Cameroonian stakeholders to engage in an inclusive and genuine political dialogue to address the challenges facing the country”.

In reaction, Tibor Nagy said he is happy with Swiss involvement.

Tibor Peter Nagy Jr, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs has expressed delight with the willingness of Switzerland to mediate between the parties in the sociopolitical crisis in Cameroon’s North West and South West Regions.

The US diplomat took to Twitter Friday to announce his delight.
“I am delighted to know the Swiss are facilitating dialogue. We encourage all parties to participate in this inclusive negotiation process to bring peace to Cameroon,” he tweeted.
