The whereabouts of John Fung remains unknown. The journalist was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen Wednesday, January 20th, 2020.
According to a source at Ndefcam Radio in Bamenda, “… John Fung was taken at Che Street Ntarikon as he set out for his job site.”
The journalist is a co-presenter of the radio program called “Press and Associate” on Ndefcam Radio. It remains unclear if his kidnapping is linked to some of his pronouncements on the radio.
John Fung works at the Bamenda regional hospital.
Though many suspect that Ambazonian fighters committed the act, no individual or group has claimed responsibility.
The kidnapping of the trained journalist comes less than 48 hours after Cameroon’s minister of territorial administration mentioned that president Paul Biya has won the war against separatists. Those attributing the kidnap to separatists argue that it might be an act to prove that the war is still on.
While chairing a security meeting in Bamenda, minister Paul Atanga Nji said just “…pockets of resistance ” still exist in the Northwest and demanded parents to get to the bushes and withdraw their kids.
