The Anglophone crisis has appeared on the annual list of neglected crisis as the 3rd most neglected.
This list was disclosed on June 1, by the Norwegian refugee Council, an independent humanitarian organization which helps poeple forced to flee crisis.
The list was based on three main criteria which were; lack of funding, lack of media attention and lack of international, political and diplomatic initiatives.
According to the group, high insecurity, accompanied by climate change and socio-economic repercussions of the Corona virus were three separate crises which persisted in Cameroon.
The reports revealed that growing insecurity and abuse on civilians, forced persons of the two Anglophone regions to flee.
“… An attack on teachers, schools and health facilities continued, leaving 700,000 children unable to go to school,” it noted.
It also reiterated that the detention of aid workers led to some organizations, suspending their programs, leaving more poeple out of reach.
It is however, the first time that the top list is comprised of African countries only.
Reacting to this, Jan Egeland, Secretary general of the Norwegian Refugee Council said, “That the world’s most neglected crisis are all in Africa, points to the chronic failure of decision makers, donors and the media to address conflict and human suffering on this continent.”
The body recalled that 2021 was no different, as aid funding was stagnated and international media attention remained limited in part due to restrictions placed on journalists within the country.
