The Vice Chancellor of the University of Bamenda, Uba, in the North West region of Cameroon, Prof Theresa Nkuo Akeni has relaxed earlier conditions set for students who had not paid fees as semester exams get underway.
Contrary to what many had said was a difficult stand, the VC in a release, January 22 said those had not paid fees have some extra days to do so and sit in for examinations.
Recently, some students wrote to the Peoples Voice on Mimi Mefo Info complaining that they had been kicked out of examination halls because of unpaid fees.
In the communiqué, the VC disclosed that the students concerned should get bank details from their schools or faculties and proceed to pay the balance owed.
After the payment, the students, Prof Nkuo said, should proceed with the receipt to the Central Administration for verification.
She however cautioned that, failure to follow this procedure, students will not be allowed into the examination hall. The decision came as a welcome relief to the students who knew they had already missed writing some courses.
However, some faculties were said to be considering organising a special catch-up exam session for the students.
There are also students who completed their fees but could not sit in for exams because the university online platform had been closed.
