Health officials in the North West region have intensified campaigns to get more people vaccinated against the COVID-19 pandemic. The fourth vaccination campaign against the pandemic has been launched in the region.
At the launch of the campaign , officials said, three cases of persons who have tested positive to COVID-19 had been recorded in the region with no deaths.
It was also disclosed that more than 22,000 people out of the targeted 900,000 in the region have received at least a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The Secretary General at the North West Governor’s office, Viang Mekala, who witnessed the launch challenged all to embrace the vaccine to fight the pandemic.
This phase of the campaign targets 16.000 people in the region. Vaccination will take place in all the 20 health districts of the region including mobile vaccination teams. This campaign is organized to run from 16th to 20th March 2022.
In Cameroon a total of 5 vaccines have been approved viz; Sinorpham, astra-zeaneca, Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer. However, not all of these will be available during this campaign, but for Sinorpham, Johnson and Johnson and Pfizer.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 in Cameroon, the government has put in place barrier measures, with vaccines introduced during the period of response. It was launched on April 14th 2021 and since then, according to the North West Regional Delegate of Public health, Dr Che Kingsley Soh, over 73.211 persons have been vaccinated on a target of 940.000 persons that was expected.
“In the region, the coverage stands at 7.8% which is quite low, with same observation at national level. Statistics of the 4th week of the pandemic, the Northwest region has registered 510 cases, 11 deaths”, Dr. Che Soh said.
