The North West Development Authority , MIDENO , has offered a consignment of improved seeds to farmers in the North West region. The consignment was shared to the beneficiaries at a ceremony in Bamenda yesterday to mark the launch of the 2022 farming season.

The Governor of the North West region, Adolphe Lele Afrique chaired the exercise.

Welcoming the guests, the Director General of MIDENO, Cletus Anye Matoya, said the offer is aimed at improving production and productivity in the agricultural sector and to encourage farmers plant effectively.

“At a time when the region is running a risk of food insecurity, which is a manifest consequence of the ongoing crises, I urge you all to ensure these seeds are effectively planted”, Matoya said.

North West Governor on his part saluted the efforts of MIDENO and its projects for always ensuring that farmers are given the necessary support during the planting season. He also encouraged farmers to invest in agriculture as it is a noble and rewarding profession for the economy.

A representative of the farmers thanked the management of MIDENO for the inputs consisting of 12 tons of improved maize seeds, agro chemicals, and fertilizers. The representative used the event to express some challenges farmers are facing.

The scarcity of table birds, fertilizer price hikes and other inputs, bad roads amongst others the farmers’ spokesperson said, are major setbacks in production.

The representative beckoned the Government through MIDENO Management to ensure that the worries of farmers are addressed to have a boost in the agricultural Sector in the region.
