It took almost an entire day for vehicles that left Bamenda for Yaounde, passing through Kombou after Babadjou, West region, to get to their destination on Sunday.
Buses and trucks were stuck on the muddy and slippery road for hours, with scores of passengers compelled to miss out on their scheduled appointments.
“Since morning that we left Bamenda till now, we have not been able to pass because of the poor roads… All the cars that left this morning are still on their way. We are still struggling. Maybe the night cars will come and meet us here” one of the frustrated travellers told Mimi Mefo Info.
He equally noted that the situation prevailed the entire day until security forces intervened.
“We left Bamenda as early at 6:00 AM this Sunday. When we arrived Kombi, movements were halted. Individual efforts to salvage the situation couldn’t help, security forces only arrived in the evening, dug the road and that is when we left the area,” our source explained.
The stretch of road is the same that passes through Babadjou, the path whose conditions have been one of the talking points in the past month.
Travellers plying it have publicly bashed the government for their outright neglect of the road linking the West Region to the Northwest Region of Cameroon.
Government on their part have assured that funds for the road are available and construction works were only stopped due to insecurity reasons.
But the nature of highway roads in Cameroon have always been made worse by the rains. Government’s plans to transform into a vast construction site over a decade ago is still on paper.
