Bafoussam: Child reportedly dies after attack by rats

Residents of Bamena, a village in the West Region of Cameroon have been gripped by fear after a baby woke up dead with “strange injuries” over her body.

Villagers says the child’s fingers were eaten by rats — “and that must have been the cause of her death.”

The baby was found lifeless on the morning of December 26, 2022, a day after Christmas celebrations. Villagers have been unable to find an alternative explanation for her death.

With the absence of postmortem services in several parts of the country, it is often difficult to ascertain the real cause of deaths.

“The baby had celebrated the feast of Christmas the day before the tragic incident, sound and healthy,” revealed a source.
