Some students of the University of Bamenda have had their hopes crushed as the Tubah Council has cleared numerous roadside businesses.
A team was reportedly sent out by the Tubah Council to Bambili, to help clear the numerous ‘Petit Businesses’ along the roads in Bambili.
The decision to dismantle these businesses was reportedly arrived at after the council had levied some exorbitant amounts of money in taxes for these businesses, run by university students to pay. When they weren’t upto the task, the council ordered for the clearing of these businesses.
The victims of the dismantled businesses have expressed complete dissatisfaction at the efforts of the Tubah Council to frustrate students who are trying to fend for themselves while going to school.
“These businesses are mostly run by students who use it to support their educational dreams… Even with the crisis, the council still doesn’t care how we are surviving,” lamented a frustrated victim of the council action.
The council has however made no official response to the victims’ cries.
