Christians of the St. Luke Catholic Church Ntasen, in Bamenda III Subdivision, are reeling from the loss of their church building after a devastating fire on Sunday, November 24, 2024. The incident occurred while members of the parish had gone to the Metropolitan Cathedral Big Mankon to celebrate the Feast of Christ the King.
The fire completely consumed the structure, leaving nothing but ashes and rubble.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown, but eyewitnesses report that it started in the afternoon when the church was empty.
By the time fire fighters arrived, the flames had already engulfed the building, making it impossible to save.
The church suffered enormous material damage, losing everything, including furniture, sacred items, and equipment.
Faith Unshaken
Despite the tragedy, members of St. Luke’s Catholic Church Ntasen are determined to remain strong.
Speaking to reporters, a visibly emotional church member said, “This is heartbreaking for all of us. We’ve lost our place of worship, but our faith is unshaken. We trust in God to guide us through this tough time.”
“We are left with finding an alternative place of worship,” said another member of the church.
This tragedy at Ntasen comes barely 24 hours after fire consumed a snack and lodging facility of the Vatican Express in Bamenda.
