Bamenda II Council announces street lighting, potable water projects

Out of 25 earmarked projects to be carried out in Bamenda II Council municipality for the 2021 fiscal year, 15 in the domains of health, infrastructure and education have been realized so far.

Peter Chenwi, Mayor of the Bamenda II Council made this known Wednesday, August 25, 2021 during the midterm evaluation meeting of the Bamenda II Council.

According to Mayor Peter Chenwi, portable water, solar street lights and better health conditions are some the services the people of the municipality will be benefiting from in the days ahead in an effort to ameliorate their living conditions.

The council also plans to carryout rehabilitation works on some roads including those leading to Chomba, Nsongwa and Mankon Palaces.

As regards revenue collection, the mayor said it stands at 18%, a situation he said is a stumbling block to the development plans of the municipality.

“The daily and tax collectors of the council cannot gain access to certain areas because of the security challenges. But I think there’s improvement to a certain level”, Mayor Peter Chenwi said.

To ensure the effective collection of taxes, Mezam Senior Divisional Officer, Simon Emile Mooh noted that a committee has been put into place to ensure effective tax recovery amongst the councils in the Bamenda city area.
