Elites of Nkwen in Cameroon’s North West Region have reacted to a recent fire recorded at the Mile 4 Market.

In a release, the elites’ President, Ndonwie Peter said the market was razed down “by anti-developers and unthinkable persons working against the development of Nkwen and Bamenda III”.

“Our village Nkwen and its people are peace-loving and welcoming people hence, will never condone or support such crimes which are against the development needs of our village and Bamenda III,” he stated.

The elites in the release further called on the authorities to properly investigate. The investigation, they added, should “bring perpetrators of this fire arson to face the arm of the law”.

“Nkwen Elites are out for socio-cultural, economic and political development of Nkwen and Bamenda III hence will always stand shoulder to shoulder with any development group existing in Bamenda including constituted authorities of Cameroon to see that we achieve our development needs through peace and respect of the principles of national integration,” they added.

Authorities have blamed the fire on the sale of illicit fuel, while traders at the market point accusing fingers at separatists.
