Cameroon’s Bar Council has called for calm from lawyers as an investigation into the assassination of late Senator Henry Kemende in Bamenda is set to commence.
A statement from the Bar Council President Barrister, Clair Atangana Bikouna confirms that the senator was attacked by two men on a bike on Tuesday night.
Pending the outcome of an investigation which has been opened to give insight into the senator’s death, the Bar president has called on his colleagues to “keep calm and exercise the utmost caution, in particular those colleagues residing in regions plagued by violence from various sources.”
The Bar Council President notes in the statement that Senator Henry Kemende, who was a member of Cameroon’s Bar from 2008-2012, and from 2015-2018 will be greatly missed.
Barrister Clair Atangana Bikouna said “he distinguished himself by producing a collection of the essential texts of our profession in French and in English that has become an important working tool for many lawyers.”
Already more than 24 hours since the assassination of the state senator, neither the government nor the SDF Party have put up an official reaction yet.
The Communications secretary for the Social Democratic Front hinted us that the party is treading with caution and will talk to the press soon enough.
As of now, there is no information about who the assailants of the senator are.
