Biya’s Supposed Meeting with UN Envoy Sparks Fresh Rumors of his Death

The dust was yet to settle over allegations that President Paul Biya was no longer in control of Cameroon’s administrative leadership when he surfaced today.

In a message on his official Facebook account, Biya announced that be had received François Louncény Fall, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa.

President Biya adds that they spoke “on sub-regional security, integration, economy and the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The meeting has however failed to put to rest the debate on his existence and whether he is still in control.

“The president’s outings these days raise a lot of doubts on his whereabouts. How can he appear before cameras and yet is unable to address all those who have gone through the trauma of this unprecedented pandemic with many people not only losing loved ones but also their jobs?” Questioned a social media user.

While some say today’s image is not genuine, others question why the president is seen without a facemask in his appearances.

“It is a bad example sir. Too bad. Leaders must lead by example. You cannot order people to put on masks or face penalties then you don’t put on yours in public,” he wrote.

Today’s meeting is the second time he is appearing on social media after that of the French Ambassador Christophe Guilhou with whom he discussed about the fight against the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic.

On both occasions, Cameroonians are still not convinced and they want more. Biya has not addressed the nation since the start of Covid-19 pandemic and many doubt if he will do so anytime soon.
